Salman Khurshid is an Indian politician, a lawyer and a writer. He belongs to the Indian National Congress. He served as Union Deputy Minister of Commerce, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Cabinet Minister of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Salman Khurshid, Indian PoliticianSalman Khurshid is a veteran Indian politician, settled under Indian National Congress. He served as Cabinet Minister of the Ministry of External Affairs during UPA regime under the Prime Ministership of Dr. Manmohan Singh. Salman Khurshid belongs to the Farrukhabad area. He was elected to the 10th Lok Sabha (1991-1996) from the Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency. He was also the Cabinet Minister of Law and Justice and Minority Affairs. He has been elected from Farrukkabad constituency in 2009.

Early life of Salman Khurshid
Salman Khurshid was born on1st January 1953 to Khurshid Alam Khan and Saeda Khurshid. He studied at St.Xavier`s school from Patna in Bihar. He did his B.A. in English and law, M.A, B.C.L at St. Stephen`s College, Delhi and St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University, Oxford, U.K. At Trinity College he also taught as Lecturer in Law.

Political Career of Salman Khurshid
Salman Khurshid started his career as a Civil Service Officer on Special Duty in Prime Minister`s Office when Indira Gandhi was the prime Minister. Then he went on to become the Deputy Minister of Commerce and then Minister of State for External Affairs from 1991-1996. He was elected to the 10th Lok Sabha (1991-1996) from the Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency. He became the Union Deputy Minister of Commerce in June 1991. Thereafter he became the Union Minister of State of External Affairs (Jan. 1993-June 1996). He became the Union Minister of State (with Independent Charges) of Corporate Affairs and Minority Affairs in the Government of India. In the Cabinet reshuffle of 12th July 2011, he was made Cabinet Minister for Law and Justice, and Minority Affairs. In the political scenario, he has been the President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee twice. He has also been the President of the Delhi Public School Society and Dr. Zakir Hussain Study Circle.

Books by Salman Khurshid
Salman Khurshid is deeply involved in writing and acting in plays since his student days. His performances in Delhi and Oxford universities made him to be the cultural head of those cirlces. He is the author of the play "Sons of Babur", which has been staged, with Tom Alter in the lead role, at the Red Fort in Delhi. Salman Khurshid expressed his views on contemporary Indian sociology and politics in several newspapers and magazines. He is editor of "The Contemporary Conservative: Selected Writings of Dhiren Bhagat" published in 1990.

Personal Life of Salman Khurshid
He is married to Louise Khurshid. The couple has three sons and a daughter.
