Under the directions of Coach Shabbir Ali, Salgaocar S.C. became the first club from Goa to win the NFL in 1998-99.

Salgaocar S.C., till date, have grabbed nineteen Goa League Championship title, three Federation Cups, two Super Cups, and two Durand Cups and won the National Football League in 1998-1999. The colour of their home jersey is green shirt with white shorts while the colour of jersey for away matches is red/white or yellow/blue.

The Salgaocar is a football club which is popular and is in the circuit for quite some time now. It happens to be the mentor of some other football clubs in the country. Distinguished players and Arjuna awardees like Bruno Coutinho, Bramhanand Shankhwalkar has been actively involved with this club for long time. Salgoacar club mostly plays in the Goa Professional League and in I-League matches. The Salgaocar Sports Club has a committed fan base in and around the state.

History of Salgaocar S.C
1956-2009
The year 1956 may well be described as the dawn of a new era in Goan football. It was a year which was the inception of a dream that many Goan people dreamt along with Mr. V.M. Salgaocar, founder President of the VM Salgaocar Group of Companies, to provide a strong platform to the Goan youth to exhibit their talent to the nation and to entire world.

In the year 1961, Goa was liberated from the Portuguese. It is now a union territory of India. Salgaocar was the first football club which got the invitation to play in the prestigious Durand Cup in New Delhi in the year 1962. There was such excitement and joy all around that the then Prime Minister Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru felicitated the team at his residence.

In the last few decades the team has performed exceedingly well and made a name for itself as one of the top football playing teams in India. A National League victory in 1999, 3 Federation Cups in 1988, 1989 & 1997, the Super Cup in 1997 & 1999, the prestigious Rovers Cup, Mumbai, in 1989, 1996 & 1999, the Durand Cup, Delhi, twice in 1999 & 2003, the Sait Nagjee, Calicut, in 1987 and TFA shield at Madurai, in 1979.

The Club has also grabbed Goa State Champions for 19 times, which is a record in itself and also includes winning Goa Professional League for 3 consecutive years; 2002-2003, 2003-2004 and 2004-2005.

Salgaocar S.C., Indian Football Club Salgaocar, in the years 1999 and 2001, also pocketed the Governor`s Cup. The late 1980s and the 1990s were one of the best phases as it saw Salgaocar SC consistently bagging trophies like the Federation Cup, the National League, the Durand Cup, Rovers Cup and the Super Cup. This continuous run of success made them earn the sobriquet "Soccer Kings".

Salgaocar Sports Club`s win in the Federation Cup consecutively for 1988, 1989 and 1997 saw the club representing India as its Champion Club at the international level in the IX & X Asian Club Championships in 1989 at Muscat & 1990 at Dhaka respectively and in 1999 in the IX Asian Cup Winners Cup.

Imminent players like Bruno Coutinho, Bramhanand Shankhwalkar have been awarded with Arjuna award, prestigious sports recognition in the country. Lawrence Gomes, Franky Baretto, Bento Andrew, Arnold Rodrigues, Roy Baretto, Derrick Pereirra, Savio Madeira, Candidio Abreu, Menino Figuereido were legendary name in the Indian football circuit.

2010-Present
Salgaocar played in the I-League championship for 2010-11 seasons which is indeed India`s biggest football tournament.

After competing hard for 26 rounds Salgaocar SC won the title, and as a result of the win they got direct entry to the 2012 Asian Championship League. The club won their 2nd trophy in a span of four months on 29th September 2011. They won the championship by defeating Kingfisher East Bengal F.C. in the Final of Federation Cup by a goal margin of 3-1.
