Rupa Goswami was a multifaceted talent during the era of Vaishnavism an Indian devotional teacher (guru), poet, and philosopher from the Gaudiya Vaishnavism tradition of Vaishnavaism. Alongside his brother Sanatana Goswami, he was considered the elder of the Six Goswamis of Vrindavan associated with Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the Indian saint believed to be the hidden Incarnation of Lord Krishna in Kali Yuga.
Rupa Gosvami is known as Bhakti-Rasacarya, was almost enchanted with Sri Sri Radha-Krsna by the dint of his talent and his deep delved feeling of loyalty and spiritualism topwards his lord. The tastes of pure devotional service that he exhibited were extremely dear to Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He was the chief of the six Gosvamis.Sri Rupa appeared in 1489 at East Bengal, the son of a pious Brahmana named Kumaradeva along with his brothers, Sanatana and Anupama. He had send 21 yrs as Householder or Grhasta Asrama and 51 years as a mendicant in Vrndavana. He was the direct disciples of Lord Chaitanya.
Contribution of Rupa Goswami
He wrote numerous books, but two books are particular given intimate details on how to become a pure devotee of the Lord. His writing was practical yet profound and having transcendental layers. Through extensive Vedic research Shri Rupa Goswami proved that Shri Chaitanya`s teachings showcase the highest philosophy and the perfection of religion. First book is the Bhakti-rasamrta Sindhu (The Nectar of Devotion) and second is Upadeshamrtam. For guide-lines in the proper mood and understanding, Rupa Goswami wrote books on raga bhakti (spontaneous love of God), so one`s natural love may develop more and more for the Lord.
Rupa Gosvami first met Lord Chaitanya at Prayaga (Allahabad, India), and on the Dasvasamedha Ghat, the Lord instructed him continually for ten days. The Lord particularly instructed RÂpa Gosvami on the science of Krishna consciousness. Later, Sril Rupa Gosvami Prabhupada elaborated the teachings of the Lord with profound knowledge of revealed scriptures and authoritative references from various Vedic literatures. Rupa Goswami established the intricately designed temple of Govindaji in Vrndavana. The present Krishna consciousness movement is also based on the authority of Sril RÂpa Gosvami Prabhupada. He ended his Past Time in 1564 i.e. 12th day of the bright fortnight of Sravan at the age of 73.
