Rukmin is the son of Bhishmaka, king of Vidarbha. He offered his services to the Pandavas and Kauravas. Rukmin was rejected by both parties for his exaggerated boastings and pretensions.

Rukmin`s sister was Rukmini who fled with Krishna and married him. Rukmin chased both Krishna and Rukmini and overtook them. His army was defeated by Krishna, and he owed his life to the entreaties of his sister. He founded the city of Bhojakata. He was ultimately killed by Balarama in a quarrel which occurred at a game of dice.
