Roop Kumar Rathod, Indian Playback SingerRoop Kumar Rathod is a versatile singer. He was born to late Pandit Chaturbhuj Rathod (father), a classical celebrity who is an inspiration to others. Kalyanji Anandji and singer Manhar trained under his tutelage. To carry forward the classical tradition of his father, Roop Kumar also started playing with Pankaj Udhas and Anup Jalota unlike elder brother Shravan Rathod (of the Nadeem-Shravan duo). His younger brother Vinod Rathod also took to playback singing. Roop Kumar Rathod has also played tabla for Shyam Benegal`s `Discovery of India`. He has also accompanied Lata Mangeshkar on stage, singing Indian classical genre like Ghazal, Qawwali, Bhajans.

Career of Roop Kumar Rathod
Playing the tabla was an object of passion for Roop Kumar, which he gave up in 1984 to pursue a new career in singing. First he entered the world of ghazals and very soon etched a distinct place for himself. Later, he also started doing playback singing. But Roop Kumar still was training under his guru Ustad Niyaz Ahmed Khan. Laxmikant - Pyarelal initiated him into the field of playback singing in 1992, with the film `Angaar`. Later on he also sang for the movie `Bhairavi` (`Om Namah Shivaye` and `Moh Maaya Ko`), `Gumraah` (`Duniya Kismat Aur Khuda` and `Main Tera Aashiq Hoon`), `Mohabbat Ki Arzoo` (`Raha Jo Dil Mein`) and `Tejaswini`. Rathod`s voice received a rave acclimation throughout. With his 1997 hit `Border` (music by Anu Malik) Roopkumar finally established his seat as a singer with mellowed pitch- he sang `To Chalun` and the chartbuster award winner `Sandesein Aate Hain`. He has also lent his voice for many other hit numbers.

Roop Kumar Rathod is married to Sonali. She originally belongs to a business family and is the daughter Leena Jhaveri, a classical dancer.
