Rohit Sharma, Indian Cricket PlayerRohit Padbanaban Sharma was born on April 30, 1987 at Bansod in Nagpur. Sharma is mainly a right-handed middle-order batsman. Sometimes he bowls right arm off-break, which is second string in his bow.

Early Life of Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma was born in the state of Andra Pradesh to Telugu parents. His mother`s name is Purnima Sharma, who hails from Visakhapatnam District in Andhra Pradesh. Rohit completed his education from Our Lady of Vailankanni high school, Mumbai. Later on he was enrolled on scholarship in Swami Vivekanand International School. Right from a very young age he was successful in cricket, and that led to his selection to India Under-17 and Under-19 teams. He made a positive mark at 2006 U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka. He went to Rizvi College, Mumbai, but before he could complete his education, he was called up for national duty.

Career of Rohit Sharma
He plays for Mumbai and West Zone in first-class cricket. In Deodhar Trophy, 2006 he scored unbeaten 142 in123 balls. In the same year he smashed Gujarat by scoring 205 in 267 balls and helped to reach Mumbai in final in the Ranji Trophy. And in final also he hit a half century to defeat Bengal. He also impressed the selector by good performances in under-17 and under-19 cricket. In the recent Euro-Asia tournament he scored two half-centuries in three matches, including 62 against Pakistan. Due to the poor performance of Indian batsman in the world cup 2007 the selectors was looking for the new talent. As a result he was given chance for the limited over short tour to Ireland. But he did not match in the series.

In 2007 twenty20 world cup he gave some brilliant performances. He made a sparkling 50 in 40 balls against South Africa in a crucial time. Sharma also scored valuable 30 runs of just16 balls in the final against Pakistan, which supported India to gain a fighting total.

Rohit made his first ODI century at Jaipur, against Pakistan on 18th November 2007, and as a result was picked up for the Indian team to Australia to take part in the CB Series 2008. He scored a total of 235 runs at an average of 33.57 with two fifties under her belt, which included 66 runs at Sydney in the 1st finals, where he partnered Sachin Tendulkar for a successful run chase.

After his tournament in Australia, his performance suffered a great dip and his position at the middle order was taken by Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli.

Sharma made a triple century at a Ranji Trophy in the December 2009 and in virtue of which, he was recalled to the Indian squad for the ODI tri-nation tournament in Bangladesh. He did not get much opportunity as Raina and Kohli were preferred over him.

Against Zimbabwe Rohit scored 114 runs on 28th May 2010, and followed it up with another century against Sri Lanka on 30th May 2010, where he scored 101 not out. Due to his inconsistency he was dropped from 2011 World Cup.

Career in Indian Premier League for Rohit Sharma
Rohit was signed up by Deccan Charger for the first three years in Indian Premier League. He was one of the leading scorers in the 2008 IPL with 404 runs at an average of 36.72. He was also the winner of the coveted Orange Cap. In the 2011 IPL, Rohit was bought for $2m by Mumbai Indians.
