Rock cut caves of Bongaigaon District are some of the most remarkable instances of the magnificent architectural wonders belonging to the Salathambha period. The region of Jogighopa boasts of some remains of five beautiful rock-cut caves, which are existent on the river bank of Brahmaputra. These are the exceptional examples of rock-cut architecture in Assam. The art and architecture of the caves are large examples of the type of art which were exercised for the period of this time chiefly in the western part of India.

Measuring about 2.60 metres in breadth, 1.90 metre in height and 1.8 metre in depth, these caves also comprise a verandah which measures 75 centimetres in length and 35 centimetres in breadth, along-with a ceiling which is round. There is also a platform composed of brick and mud which is present inside the caves. Excess rain water is drained away with the aid of a chaser which runs along the breadth of the cave. One of the best preserved caves in the area has the length of 1.90 meters and comes with a rounded varendah. Among these five caves, some are fairly smaller and bear no veranda and flights. Besides, Archaeological Survey of India has taken up the conservation work for the fortification and safeguarding these caves. There are a series of steps which have been artificially constructed on both the sides of the caves. Sculptural motifs are absent in these rock cut caves. The Archaeological Survey of India has been entrusted the duty of conserving this wonderful site. There are also other tourist locations close by, such as Kalimandir near the Shahid Vedi, etc. The other caves at the place have no flights and verandah and are smaller in size than the best conserved one.
