Riwa Fort, Monument of MaharashtraRiwa Fort is situated in central Mumbai which is the capital city of the state of Maharashtra. It is also known as Rewah Fort and Kala Qilla (Black Fort). The fortress is located on the banks of the Mithi River or Mahim River in Salsette Island. It was established by Gerald Aungier under the British East India Company. He was the British Governor of Bombay Presidency which one of the three Presidencies in British India.

Riwa Fort was incorporated as a part of the Bombay Castle or Casa Da Orta which was one of the earliest defensive structures in Bombay (Mumbai). The fortress marked the northern part of the Bombay Presidency during the 17th century. It was also utilized as an observation tower to watch out for attacks of enemies. This helped in guarding the region from Salsette Island which was under the Portuguese.

Presently, Riwa Fort is in a ruined and dilapidated state. Most of the structure is heavily encroached by the local slums.
