The team will serve as one of the replacements for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who were both suspended for two seasons due to illegal betting by their respective owners. The franchise is owned by Sanjiv Goenka-led New Rising.

Stephen Paul Fleming
Stephen Paul Fleming is a former New Zealand cricketer, and captain of the New Zealand national cricket team, known as the Black Caps, in Test and one-day cricket. Stephen Paul Fleming is known for his astute tactical abilities. He is New Zealand`s second-most capped test player with 111 test appearances, longest-serving and most successful captain, having led the side to 28 victories and having won Test match series` against India, England, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. In February 2015 he was signed as coach of the Melbourne Stars of the Big Bash League. In 2016, Indian Premier League, he is appointed as the coach of Rising Pune Supergiants.

Sanjiv Goenka is the owner of the Rising Pune Supergiants. Sanjiv Goenka is the chairman of RPG Group.

Hrishikesh Kanitkar
Hrishikesh Hemant Kanitkar is an Indian cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler. When Hrishikesh Hemant Kanitkar retired in 2015, he was one of only three batsmen to have scored 8000-plus runs in the Ranji Trophy and also only captain in the Ranji Trophy`s history to lift the Elite and Plate league titles. He is now the Assistant Coach of Rising Pune Supergiants.

Eric Owen Simons
Eric Owen Simons is a former South African cricketer. He was an all-rounder, and he played 23 One Day Internationals but no Tests for South Africa in the 1990s. He later became coach of the national side for two years but he was replaced in 2004 by Ray Jennings. He is the current bowling coach of the Rising Pune Supergiants team in the 2016 IPL.
