Rig Veda SamhitaRig Veda Samhita has 1028 hymns. The hymns are again divided into 10 books. They are called the `mandalas`. These Mandalas has 114 hymns which are addressed to Lord Soma. However Rigveda Samhita is generally divided into eight parts called `Ashtakas`. These eight chapters are again divided into eight chapters each. Altogether there are 64 chapters according to this particular classification.

On the whole, it consists of hymns that are to be sung to the various incarnations of Gods. It includes Varuna, Mitra, Surya, Savitr, Vishnu, Pusan, the Ashvin twins, Agni, Soma, Yama, Parjanya, Indra, Maruts, Rudra, Vishvakarman, Prajapati, Aditi are some of them. The Mandala has hymns which pertain to popular, spiritual and cosmogony themes. In all the hymns have been attributed to 407 Sages. It is considered as the Great Indian Bible. It has a style, language and the tone which are mysterious. Its Mantras symbolize the greatest truths of existence. The priest is known the Hotri.
