Revdanda Fort was an ancient beach facing fort located at Revdanda in Raigad district of Maharashtra. The fort is located at the mouth of the Kundalika River where it meets the Arabian Sea. It is easily accessible by road. The Alibaug-Murud road passes through the fort. Earlier, the fort was guarded on three sides by creek water.

Etymology of Revdanda Fort
During the Portuguese times it was called "Santa Maria de Castelo", but the locals called it "Revdanda" after Revati the spouse of the Yadava king Balaram.

History of Revdanda Fort
Revdanda Fort was built by Portuguese Captain Soj in 1524 to watch over their trading interests. It was captured by the Marathas in 1740 along with the Korlai Fort as per the treaty signed by the Portuguese. In 1806, it was ceded to the East India Company and remained in brief control of the Angres in 1817. Finally, it was captured by British in 1818.

Structure of Revdanda Fort
Revdanda Fort has a 4 storey tower and a couple of cannons within its walls. The periphery of the fort is around 5 km. The entire fortification has two main doors one from north and the other from south. Of which the northern gate was for land connection and the southern gate was used as a passage to the sea.

Mumbai is the nearest airport and Pen, Kolad and Nagothane are the nearest railway stations. One can hire taxis or private cars to reach the fort. State transport buses are also available from Mumbai and Pune to reach Revdanda Fort.
