Revdanda of Raigad District is a historic village situated near Alibag. It grabbed attention when Russian historians discovered that Afanasy Nikitin, the first Russian traveller to India landed in Revdanda.

The village is nestled near Alibag, a coastal town in Konkan region of Maharashtra. It is 17 km away from Alibag and 125 km away from Mumbai. Revdanda is a historical place and is home to various attractive spots that are worth visiting. The beauty of this place attracts tourists from varied distant places of the world.

Historic Significance of Revdanda
This historic place grabbed attention when Russian historians discovered that Afanasy Nikitin, the first Russian traveller to India landed in Revdanda. A monument was established in his memory in the year 2000. A foundation stone for the monument in his memory was also laid at Revdanda. The function was attended by a high level delegation from Russia.

Revdanda is also an important place for the Indian Jewish community. About 700 years ago, after the destruction of the Holy Temple of Israel in Biblical era, a group of Jews came in touch with India. The group arrived and settled in Nagav which is 15 minutes from Revdanda. They adopted the culture and lifestyle of India. They also founded an Indian Jewish community.

Attractions of Revdanda
The main highlight of the place is scenic beauty. The spectacular view of coconut and beetle nut plantations is a treat to the eyes. The plantation of coconut trees is known as "naralachi baag" or "wadi" in Marathi language. The village is also famed for a species of flower called "Bakuli". It`s a small flower with an amazing fragrance.

Datta Mandir and Shitala Devi Mandir are also popular among the locals and tourists. Datta Mandir is located on the top of a peak in the chaul part of Revdanda. It is the temple of Lord `Datta` which is mainly worshipped by the Maharashtrian people. From this temple, people can have a panoramic view of Revdanda. According to historians, this temple was constructed in Raje Shivaji`s reign to keep a track on the movements of enemy.

Shitala Devi Mandir is popular after Datta Mandir. People of Revdanda have the faith that Goddess Shitala protects them from bad forces. A few years back, the temple of Shitala Devi was renovated.Revdanda, Raigad District, Maharashtra

The History lovers can visit Bet El Synagogue located in chaul region of Revdanda. It is almost 100 years old. History says here the largest Jewish Population lived.

Another attraction of the village is the beach. It is an isolated place in this region. The charm of the beach lies in its black sand and serenity. There is a fort in the vicinity of the beach known as Revdanda Beach Fort. It is a remnant of the Portuguese rule. Currently, the fort is in ruins.

The village of Revdanda is well connected via airway and railway. The closest airports are situated in Mumbai (114kms) and Pune (155kms). The nearest railway stations are located at Pen (46kms), Kolad (49kms), and Nagothane (54kms). The ideal time to enjoy holiday at Revdanda is during the Monsoon season.
