Rekha Tandon is a performer, dancer, choreographer and trained researcher in one of India’s famous classical dance form Odissi.

Rekha Tandon, Indian DancerRekha Tandon is an Artistic Director of Dance Routes, which rephrases Odissi in contemporary ways. She is a performer, dancer, choreographer and trained researcher in Odissi. She has developed a method of teaching Odissi that, through parallel studies in yoga and classical aesthetics, introduces movement within a spiritual context.

Early life of Rekha Tandon
Rekha Tandon received the major part of her training in Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra"s style of Odissi from Shrimati Madhavi Mudgal at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi. She was a part of Madhavi Mudgal"s dance company between 1958 and 1992.

She received the Charles Wallace Arts Fellowship UK and subsequently the UNESCO"s Artist"s Bursary Award for the further studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of music and dance in London and from there she received the Ph d in 2005. The dancer has a Master Degree in Art History from the National Museum Institute New Delhi and a Bachelor"s Degree from the school of Planning and Architecture New Delhi.

Works of Rekha Tandon
Her performances have taken her too many parts of the world, including USA, Brazil, most of Europe, the Middle East and Japan, as well as South Africa. She has also acted and danced in "Prerna", a film produced by Doordarshan and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in dance at the Laban Center for Movement and Dance in London.

She has developed a method of teaching Odissi that, through parallel studies in yoga and classical aesthetics, introduces movement within a spiritual context which encompassed her approaches in choreography, performance and teaching. Students at the Laban International Summer School have enthusiastically received her workshops for four consecutive years. Rekha is the Artistic Director of Dance Routes; an organization dedicated to exploring new choreographic directions with traditional forms of dance, and creating awareness about the use of dance in mainstream education and therapy.

Personal Life of Rekha Tandon
She now lives and works with her husband and collaborator Michael Weston, dividing her time between Bhuvaneshwar, New Delhi and London.
