He is the only bowler apart from Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka to bowl the carrom ball.

Domestic Career
This right-arm off-break bowler of Andhra Pradesh Cricket team started his "First-class" Cricket career against Haryana team from December 9 to 12 in 2006, which was held at Chennai. Ravichandran Ashwin has played in altogether 34 "First-class" matches with an average of 35.45. His total score in these matches is 1170 runs. The highest score in any of the "First-class" matches is 107 runs and his striking rate is 56.46. In bowling, Ravichandran Ashwin has picked up total 134 wickets by giving 3769 runs out of 8494 balls. His bowling average is 28.12 and economy rate is 2.66 in these matches. The latest "First-class" match played by Ravichandran Ashwin was against East Zone Cricket team from February 3 to 6 in 2008, which was held at Mumbai.

International Career
Ashwin has also played in the One Day International matches. He made his debut in `ODI` against Sri Lanka at Harare, June 6, 2010 where he scored 38 runs and ended up in the losing side. He has played in altogether 20 `ODI` scoring a total of 116 runs with an average of 19.33. His striking rate in these matches has been 117.07 while the highest score made by him is 38. With ball in hand Ravichandran Ashwin has picked up total 32 wickets. His bowling average is 26.00 in these matches.

Ashwin made his Test Match debut for India against West Indies along with pace bowler Umesh Yadav and was adjudged the match of the match right on his first match, only the third Indian cricketer to do so after Pravin Amre and R.P. Singh. He had an impressive figure for the match with 27-4-81-3 in the 1st innings and 21.3-5-47-6 in the 2nd innings. His dream spell of 9 wickets happens to be the second best by an Indian test cricketer on debut after Narendra Hirwani.

Personal Life of Ravichandran Ashwin
Ashwin was born on 17th September 1986 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and studied at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan till class 10. For 11th and 12th standard he went to St. Bede`s. He completed his engineering course from SSN College of Engineering, Chennai. Recently, on 13th November 2011 he got married to his childhood sweetheart Preethi Narayanan.
