Ravangla is a tourist town in south Sikkim district, which is situated in the north-eastern Indian state of Sikkim. It is located at an elevation of 7000 feet above sea level. Ravangla has been a tourist destination for its breathtaking landscape and tranquillity. Ravangla is among one of the few places in Sikkim which offer an undisturbed view of the snow ranges of the Greater Himalayas.

Tourism in Ravangla
Mount Kanchenjunga, Mount Pandim, Mount Sinialchu and Mount Kabru are few of the major peaks that are clearly visible from Ravangla. The upper parts of Ravangla experience snowfall during winter. Thousands of beautiful flowers like rhododendrons and orchids are in full bloom during the months of April and May. Some of the famous tourist spots in Ravangla are mentioned below:

Buddha Park: The Buddha Park of Ravangla is situated near Rabong. It is home to a Buddhist circuit and a statue of Lord Buddha. The statue of Lord Buddha was established there, in the year of 2006, on the occasion of the 2550th birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha.

Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary: Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary houses a rare collection of Himalayan species like the red panda, Himalayan black bear, leopard cat, black pheasant cat etc. Ravangla is home to a wide variety of birds like white-browning fantails, verditer flycatchers, green-backed tit, grey bushchats, blue whistling thrush, blue-fronted redstarts and dark-throated thrush.

Rayong Sunrise View Point: It is located at a distance of 8 km from Ravangla on the road to Damthang. The first few rays of the sun lighten up the snowy peaks of Mount Narsing, Jopuno, Kabur, Rathong and Mount Pandim.

Temi Tea Garden: The Temi tea garden is located at distance of only 16 km from Ravangla. The journey through the winding road via Damthang is even more attractive. Temi Tea Garden is renowned for its production of reputable quality of tea which is in high demand in India as well as abroad.

Hot Springs in Ravangla: Ralang hot spring is situated at a distance of 26 kms from Ravangla. The monastery on the way holds the famous Kagiang festival in December. Cha-Chu or hot sulphur springs at Ralang and Borong are traditional winter spas where visitors spend a week or more soaking in these springs that have medicinal properties. Ralang and Cha-Chu can be reached after a 1 hour downhill walk to the Rangeet valley from the Ralang monastery.

Ralang Monastery: Located about 13 km from Ravangla is a monastery at Ralang which follow the Kagyupa sect of Buddhism. This old monastery was built in 1768 AD. `Pang Lhabsol`, which is a ritual of worshipping Mount Kangchenjunga and "Kagyed Chaam" (masked dances) are held in the monastery every year.

Bonn Monastery: This is another religious attraction of Ravangla, situated in the Kewzing Village. This monastery was established in the late 1980s as a symbol of the determination of the community of Kewzing, in preserving their traditions.

Tashiding Monastery: Tashiding Monastery, located 39 km away from Ravangla, literally means the "Central Elevated Glory". Built in 1716 AD, it is the most sacred monastery complex in Sikkim and hosts the annual "Bumchu" festival in which the barrel containing holy water is opened and the level of water foretells what the year lays ahead.

Trekking in Ravangla
Ravangla also offers some fabulous short treks. A 12 km trek from Ravangla through the oak, pine, rhododendron, magnolia and fir forests takes tourists to Maenam peak at 10,600 feet. Another 1.5 km uphill trek leads to Valedunga, a hilltop offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Tendong Hill Trek starts with a 13 km drive to Damthang and 2.5 hours trek. Tendong peak offers a spectacular 360 degree view of Sikkim and the distant plains of North Bengal. Visitors also make an attempt to trek to Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary; they would have to commence their trekking journey from Ravangla. The trek takes 2.5 to 4 hours and winds through a thick forest of oak, chestnut, magnolia and rhododendron trees.

Connectivity to Ravangla
Ravangla is linked to the other significant towns of Sikkim by the state highway and is situated between Gangtok and Pelling. The nearest airport to Ravangla is Bagdogra Airport and the nearest railway station to Ravangla is New Jalpaiguri Railway station and it takes 4-5 hours to reach Ravangla by road as the road condition is not good. Cabs and Taxis are available from outside the airport and railway station.
