Rann Mahotsav, Indian FestivalRann Mahotsav is like a riot of colours and happiness. This festival of Rann of Kutch hosts to show the regional culture of Gujarat and its adjacent states. Rann Mahotsav is hosted by the Government of Gujarat annually in the month of December.

Rann Mahotsav presents one with an enthralling unification of salt desert culture; peeping from the folds of a semi-arid landscape. The mesmerising beauty of classical trance while one see in midst of camel and fire, the twirling of silver-bangled tribal women, outfitted in layers of hand-embroidered appliqué lehengas. One can also see the rhythmic dance and the turbaned, moustachioed men in loin clothes and short skirts, heads bent and swaying as they play their goatskin drums with religious and societal passion.

The dance of the tribal woman, the children and the moustachioed men in loin clothes and the desert music with Sarangi, Khartaal and Nagphani all come together on the salt desert of Rann to make a perfect Rann Mahotsava.

The assortment of exquisite luxury and music which is set against the luminous beauty of Kutch allures the national and international tourists. The full-moon night during Rann Utsav, the entire area wakes to an incessant series of Indian traditional and modern dance, music, art and craft in a festivity. This is the best time to visit Kutch, when the region brims with hospitality, vigour, magic and mythical flavour of Rann.

This is no doubt a wintry cultural extravaganza that travels to different parts of Kutch region of Gujarat. The fair is organised by the Tourism Department of Gujarat that holds a kaleidoscope to a variety of art forms of western India that reflect and capture the uniqueness of the region. The tourists from across the world flocked to the fair and returned home with a bagful of memories that are certain to last a lifetime.

Rann Mahotsav is a plethora of varied hues, abundance of design, glut of culture, profusion of music and dance; with all together in the arid lands of Kutch creates a mosaic of uniqueness, which reflects the identity and spirit of the region.
