Location of Rani Birla Girls College
It is conveniently located at Shakespeare Sarani making it easily accessible from both Jawaharlal Nehru Road and A.J.C Bose Road intersections of the Shakespeare Sarani. It is adjacent to Macpherson Square and Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad and the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station is nearby.

History of Rani Birla Girls College
The college was established in 1961 in the month of July by the Hindusthan Charity Trust in memory of the Rani Jogeshwari Devi Birla with a purpose of serving as a women"s educational centre in an enlightened and progressive ambience. The present day building of Modern High School at 78, Amir Ali Avenue in Kolkata used to house the college on the top floor. Despite the modernity and developments, the college has always outshone itself in every sphere of academics like a tradition that has been constant and unbroken till present. The insistence over the diligence, dedication and discipline forms the 3Ds that makes sure the students emerge from the walls not only as academic experts but also as confident, well-equipped and mature individuals. Dr. Sunetra Sinha, M.A. (English), Ph.D. is the Principal of College.

Courses offered by Rani Birla Girl`s College
The College specifically offers courses of B.A. honours in variant subjects those are again divided into departments such as Department of English, Education, Geography, History, Political Science, Sociology, Communicative English, Journalism and Mass Communication, Bengali, Economics, Hindi, Philosophy, Fashion and Apparel Design and Physical Training. Every Department contains a specific professor according to their expertise.

The academic environment of the college is highly disciplined. Students are advised to be regular in their classes as well as their tutorials. The college takes regular tests that are compulsory for all students. Students should keep minimum of 75% attendance in each subject as required by the University of Calcutta.

Amenities at Rani Birla Girl`s College
There is an Annual Prize Distribution that occurs every year in the College premises. The students are given prizes for their academic achievements in the College and Calcutta University examinations. There are also prizes for the sports activities during that year. Not only the students get award, but the teachings and non-teachings staffs are also awarded for their sports achievements. The prizes are distributed in the form of certificates, medals and other forms. The President or distinguished member of the Governing Body distributes the prizes.

Students are also encouraged to take part in extra curricular activities like seminars, debates, quiz programs, mock-parliament, play-readings and cultural programs. The college Annual Fest is called Amitie, which is organized by the students. They also enthusiastically take part in the inter-college competitions held during the fests organized by other colleges. The students also organize Charity Sales with the help of the teachers for social service activities.

The College annual sport is another program, which is celebrated with immense enthusiasm. There is a College Magazine published every year named "Ourselves". In this magazine both teachers and students show their literary proficiency in English, Hindi and Bengali. Annual Excursions organized by the College and one-day picnics are arranged by different departments. Both the events bring great happiness and joy in both teachers` and students` life.

There is a Psychological Counselling Cell in the College to meet the student`s emotional and psychosocial needs. The workshops are arranged at frequent intervals under the expert guidance of the teacher of the College and also professionally qualified Counsellors. It also provides personal counselling when required.

There is also an academic counselling cell in the college that advice the students about their career goal after leaving the college. Different companies also come to interact with the students making them aware of the prospects in different fields. The student`s health home facilities are also there.

The students receive physical training on a regular basis under trained instructor during college hours. There have been extended courses of Aerobics and Yoga classes to help the students keeping up with physical health. Other art classes like Pot Painting, Glass Painting, and so on are also conducted.

There is a facility of Grievance Cell which is well administered. It receives grievances starting from confidential stakeholders and students and responds to their queries from this cell. In case of occasions of RTI invoice by any outsider or stakeholder, the college acts through this cell.

The college has facilities of IT education and training where they get education on learning various software and IT tools required in the present day lifestyle.

Alumni of Rani Birla Girl`s College
The Alumni Association of Rani Birla Girl`s college has been established in April 2003. The Association organizes Reunion and other Programs every year, which helps to bring the members of the RBGC family nearer and closer to each other.
