The most significant place in Panchavati is Ramkund. The name is so given because Lord Rama is believed to have taken a bath here. Mortal remains (Asthi) of a person, if immersed here, are immediately absorbed into the water. A dip in this sacred kunda is therefore regarded very pious.
Situated nearby is the Gandhi Lake (Talav) that has a memorable monument made out of white marble, in the memory of the Father of the Nation. The ashes were immersed in Ramkund after Gandhiji passed away on 30th January 1948. Ramkund is the place where River Godavari takes a turn towards the right, at an angle of 90 degrees.
