It is the main place of worship in the town which is visited by thousands of pilgrims throughout the year. Ramnavami, the day of Lord Ram"s birth, is celebrated with great pomp and fervor in the Chaitra month of the Hindu calendar that falls between March and April.

History of Ramkot
Hanuman Garhi, a massive four-sided fort with circular bastions at each corner and a temple of Hanuman inside, is the most popular shrine in Ayodhya. Situated in the center of the town, it is approachable by a flight of 76 steps. Its legend is that Hanuman lived here in a cave and guarded the Janambhoomi, or Ramkot. The main temple contains the statue of Maa Anjani with Bal Hanuman seated on her lap. The faithful believe that wishes are granted with a visit to the shrine.

Ramkot Fort is a place which is of utmost importance in city and visited by many pilgrims throughout the year, Ramkot Shrine is located on a hillock which is a major place of worship in Ayodhya city. On the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami many pilgrims visit this place to pay their respects and worship Lord Rama with lots of cultural programs that held on this occasion. Chaitra Month in the Indian calendar year is celebrated with pomp and show in this city by decorating Ramkot Temple which leaves the visitors with some fascinating views. This place is amongst the ones which are most frequently visited by so many travelers who come to Ayodhya.

This is precisely because Ramkot is the site of the ancient citadel of Ramkot that stands on an elevated ground in the western part of the city. The place marks the site of Lord Ram`s fort that once existed. This the same place where Lord Rama was bestowed with the kingdom and kinship of `Koshala`. Pilgrims throughout the year frequent the place.
