Ramesh Krishnan, Indian Tennis PlayerRamesh Krishnan is considered as one of the legends of Indian Tennis. He is the son of the well-known Indian Tennis player, Ramanathan Krishnan. Ramesh Krishnan was born on 5th June, 1961 in Chennai and got his primary training in Tennis, from his father, Ramanathan Krishnan. Ramesh Krishnan started playing Tennis at a very young age and ruled the national trail for years. He got noteworthy success both in the celebrated international Tennis events and in Davis Cup ties for India.

Career of Ramesh Krishnan
The best period in the career of Ramesh Krishnan was the decade of 1980s, when he achieved even-handed success in Grand Slam tournaments. He won the trophy in the Wimbledon and French Open Junior Singles Championship in the year 1979. By winning the Wimbledon Junior Singles Championship title, he repeated the success of his father Ramanathan Krishnan, who won the title in 1954.

Apart from winning the junior titles, Ramesh Krishnan also reached the quarter-finals of US Open in 1981 and 1987. He reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 1986, as well. During his career, Ramesh Krishnan has won 8 professional Singles titles and one Doubles title. He was the only Indian Tennis player to be ranked No.1 Junior in the world. He was also one of the only three Indian Tennis players, who have successfully entered into the top 30 of the Tennis World rankings. He was ranked at 23 in January, 1985.

Apart from showing amazing performances in the international tennis events, Ramesh Krishnan also played extraordinarily well for India in the Davis Cup tournament. He was an integral part of the Indian Davis Cup squad that successfully reached the finals in 1987; he played an essential function in the team reaching the final when he won the important match against Australia. He defeated a much more experienced Wally Masur of Australia in straight sets in the decisive rubber that year. He also partnered Leander Paes to reach the quarter-finals of men`s doubles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Krishnan could never win an Olympic medal. The Government of India honoured Ramesh Krishnan with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 1998, for his magnificent achievements in Tennis.
