Ram Barat is a festive event which is a part of the famous `Ramlila` celebrations which occur in Agra in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. The terms `Ram Barat` imply Lord Rama`s wedding procession or `Baraat`. A brand new locale is selected every year for this elaborate event, in Agra and this area is beautifully adorned with flowers and lights. This predetermined region is offered a major facelift and beautified prior to this sacred marriage procession. The preparations of Ram Barat commences much before the final day of this grand festive event, and some of the most dexterous craftsmen of India are called upon to establish the `Janak Mahal` and other structures. This region is specially funded and embellished just in a similar manner to that of a bride`s paternal residence, ready to welcome the `baraatis`, which means Lord Rama and his family.

History of Ram Barat
It is believed that Ram Barat has been observed since the last 125 years, particularly since the time when a well-known businessman named Lala Kokamal had started this concept of the baraati for a period of three days, which is directly connected to the ritual of marriage which took place between Lord Rama and Sita. His impact has been quite profound on Ram Barat and due to this reason the roadways along which the procession proceeds are known as `Lala Kokamal Marg` and even the premises where Ram Lila is celebrated is named after the gentleman Lala Kokamal. Radharaman, Kokamal`s son embraced the responsibility of conducting the Ramlila, as Ramlila`s secretary in 1966. This continued till his death in the year 1978.

Currently Raj Narain who is the youngest son of Radharaman works as the treasurer of Ramlila while Hari Krishan Agarwal who is his grandson is the Vice-President of Ramlila celebrations in Agra. The area of Kamla Nagar had been chosen as the spot for Ram Barat in 2008, and during 2010 Ram Barat was held in Balkeshwar. `Janak Puri` was selected as the venue for Ram Barat celebrations in the year 2013.

Rituals of Ram Barat
The rites and festivities of Ram Barat continue for three days. Innumerable excited people belonging to Agra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh witness the marriage procession celebrated for commemorating that of Lord Rama. The region where Ram Barat is observed is illumined with a lot of wonderful lights and music is played.
