Rakhi is a bracelet used as an armlet. Rakhi is the sign of Raksha or preservative against evil. Rakhi consists of a piece of thread or silk or some more costly material, wore round the wrist or arm, with an appropriate prayer.

Rakhi is used as an application to children to avert the effects of evil eyes, or to protect them against witches. The Rakhi Purnima or the festival of Rakhi is celebrated every year on the full moon day in the month of Sravana. It is an occasion when women tie Rakhi or amulet on the wrists of their brothers.
