Rajiv Gandhi Technical University was established in the year 1998 by the Government of Madhya Pradesh under the provision of Act no 13, 1998 of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

Rajiv Gandhi Technical University, Madhya PradeshRajiv Gandhi Technical University has been recognised by the University Grant Commission. The main objective is to develop the standard of the technical education of the state. It is also known as the University of Madhya Pradesh. The Campus of the University spread over the districts of Bhopal, Sagar, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior. The University head quarter is located inside the campus of Bhopal Engineering College. All the colleges which offer degrees in the field of Engineering, Science and Technology and Polytechnic colleges are affiliated to the University.

There are 55 degree colleges and 58 Polytechnic colleges functioning under this University. After the establishment of the University the Board of Technical Education was merged with the University. Rajiv Gandhi Technical University is the Member of Association of Indian Universities. The University offers BE, BTech, MCA, BArch, Bpharma courses through its affiliated colleges. The University has started BE in Information Technology from 1999.
