Brilliant acting potential and down-to-earth attitude are the qualities, which describe the very talented actor Rajesh Khera to the hilt. He first catapulted to fame with the character portrayal of the effeminate Maddy in the hugely popular show `Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin`. He was a resident of Pune and shifted to the tinsel town in the year 1993 with only 600 bucks in his pocket. After landing in Mumbai he started doing voice-overs and also worked as a production trainee with an ad agency. Stage and drama had always been a part of his life right from the days of his childhood. He was always quite passionate about acting and simultaneously concentrated on his academics as well. In course of his career he tried his hand in many things including hotel management, MBA, CA. But his luck did not favor him in any of this arena. It is then he realized that he must follow the path where his heart lies and then started hunting for roles by approaching the producers. As he did not have any formal training in acting he faced a lot of problems initially.
Vinod Pandey offered the first break to Rajesh Khera in the soap called `Reporter` which was aired on DD1. Following that he got the opportunity to act in many hugely popular dailies and weeklies like `Tara`, `Raahein`, `Itihaas`, `Raahat`, `Swabhimaan` and `Saaya` but most of the roles offered to him were negative. In the course of time he felt that he was stagnating and that is when he decided to take his plunge into the Bollywood Film Industry. He also felt that with films he could experiment more on the subjects, which he otherwise does not get to do it in televisions. He made his film debut with the Bollywood flick `Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa` by the reputed filmmaker Govind Nihalni. The other films in which he acted are `Josh`, `Taal`, `Hu Tu Tu`, `Tum Bin` and `Samay`. About his position in the industry this great actor claims that the profession itself is very insecure. Though at one point of time he felt that his track did not click with the audience still he holds the view that the television is quite a chilled out medium. On the other hand he also asserts the fact that in films one needs a lot of luck especially if one has no Godfather in the industry.
Talking about the major turning point of his career `Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin` Rajesh Khera claims that he had done his homework before meeting the producers and creative writers of the show. In the initial stages they were apprehensive about casting him as he was mainly seen in negative character portrayals but then after he gave his due audition for the role he was playing and they selected him at once. He also believes that he had stayed for 10 years in the industry and now it is too late for him to get slotted in the role of Maddy. In fact this role has given his lost due and respect in the industry. Post the success of this character many producers and directors have offered him meaty roles in films but things did not work out much. In his personal life he is very contented now and claims that he is satisfied with the way his career is shaping up now. His fans also wish that he would go many more miles in this industry before he quits the profession of acting.
