Rajesh Chauhan is a former Indian cricket player. In the 1990s he was one among the Indian spin trio of Kumble-Raju-Chauhan comprising Anil Kumble and Venkatapathy Raju in addition to him. In his sports career he has played 21 Tests and 35 One Day Internationals since the year 1993 to 1998. Although he did not have any magnanimous contribution in the Indian cricket team, the country did not lose any of Tests he was a part of. He gained prominence for his last over six off Saqlain Mushtaq at Karachi in 1997 in which he sealed a four wicket win against Pakistan for India.
Born on 19th December 1966, Rajesh Chauhan hails from a sports background. His father Govind Raja Chauhan, from Ranchi, was also a cricketer and in the years 1957 and 1964 had played Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy respectively. Vidi, in Kutch district of Gujarat, is their ancestral village. Rajesh Chauhan`s family belongs to a small community called Kutch Gurjar Kshatriya. From the year 1993 to 1996, Rajesh has also been the Chairman of All-India Youth Wing of Kutch Gurjar Kshatriya community. He is known to be an active member of the community.
Rajesh Chauhan suffered a severe car accident in April 2007 in which he was seriously injured. He got multiple fractures along with bruising on his leg, back, hand and head. He also suffered a massive cardiac arrest. Presently he is a resident of Bhilai, Chhattisgarh where he is involved in his own business. He is also the PRO in Bhilai Steel Plant.
