Raj Babbar was born on June 23, 1952 in Agra. He is a Hindi and Punjabi film actor since 1980. He is also an alumnus of the 1975 batch of National School of Drama. Raj Babbar is an actor known for his superb style of acting. He has done several commendable films in Bollywood. Despite his refined acting capability, he did not earn much of the super-star image in Indian cinema.
Career of Raj Babbar
Raj Babbar trained in the Method School of Acting at National School of Drama, which is involved in Street Theatre. After his training in New Delhi he moved to Mumbai and started his film career. The debut film of Raj Babbar was Sau Dina Saas Ke (100-days of mother-in-law), opposite one of the leading actresses of that time; Reena Roy. Later he went forward to play the horrific negative role in B.R. Chopra`s Insaaf Ka Tarazu (Balance of Justice), where he acted opposite highly acclaimed female stars Zeenat Aman and Padmini Kohlapure.
He was a constant actor in B.R. Chopra`s films, namely the Aaj Ki Aawaz with Smita Patil, Nikaah with Deepak Parashar and Salma Agha and so on. He worked with leading stars and directors of his era. He also achieved immense success in Punjabi cinema. His remarkable performance in Chan Pardesi (1980) and Long Da Lishkara (1986) was remembered by the audience for a long time. He also starred in several hit Punjabi films, some of them being Aasra Pyar Da (1983), Mahaul Theek Hai (1999), Marhi Da Diva (1989), Yaaran Naal Baharaan (2005), Shaheed Uddham Singh (2000) and Ek Jind Ek Jaan (2006). It has been known that Babbar often does Punjabi films for free and thus delivers an act of generosity to Punjabi cinema. Raj Babbar also acted in Television and appeared in the introductory episode of the famous Indian TV series Mahabharata, an Indian epic, as king Bharat.
Juhi Babbar did her debut in 2003 in a film entitled "Kaash...Aap Hamare Hote" opposite singer-turned-actor Sonu Nigam.
However, the film did not go well in the box office and thus she left the career in acting. Prateek Babbar recently did his debut in Aamir Khan`s production and Abbas Tyrewala`s direction Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. He played the character of Amit Mahant, the quirky brother of the female protagonist, Aditi. Both the general public and critics have very well received his role. Another son, Arya Babbar has also done few films, one of them being `Ab k Baras`.
Political Career of Raj Babbar
Raj Babbar joined Samajwadi Party and became a Member of Parliament of India three consecutive times from his native constituency of Agra. Raj Babbar highlighted socialism as publicized by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia and formed the basis of formation of Samajwadi Party.
