Rabha Dance, Garo Hills, MeghalayaRabha Dance plays an important part in the life of the Rabha Tribes of Meghalaya. In the Garo Hills, after every ritual they perform various dances to ingratiate their deities. Two of the popular Rabha Dances amongst the tribes are as follows:

Hamjar Dance: The "Hamjar Dance" is about paddy cultivation. It also known as "Girkay" dance. The Rabhas have an agrarian culture. Majority of the Rabhas have been living in the hills. In shifting cultivation they work together sharing a common song and music. It helps them to finish the work easily. Hence in this folk dance, they take agricultural implements.

Farkanti Dance: The "Farkanti Dance" is performed to cheer up the family of the recently deceased. In this folk dance female dancers take sword and shield while male dancers dance with "Manchelengka", the emblem of the Rabhas, in their hands.
