Raakhee Gulzar was born on August 15, 1947 in India. She is an Indian Bollywood actress hailing from the state of West Bengal. She was born in Ranaghat, in the Nadia District of West Bengal on early hours of 15 August 1947. Her father had a flourishing shoe business in East Pakistan in Bangladesh now Bangladesh.
Film Career of Raakhee Gulzar
Raakhee Gulzar`s career spans from the late 1960s to 2003. Raakhee won positive reviews for her first Bengali film Badhu Baran 1967 after which she was showered with many superior roles. She appeared in the lead role for the Rajshri Productions Jeevan Mrityu with Dharmendra in 1970.
The film Sharmilee in 1971 brought her into fame, where she played a double role opposite Shashi Kapoor. Since then, she starred in many Hindi blockbuster films, the most famous being among them are Kabhie Kabhie (1976), Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1977), Kaala Patthar (1979), Trishul (1978), Jurmana (1979), Lawaaris (1981), Barsaat Ki Ek Raat (1981) and Bemisal (1982) all co starring with Amitabh Bachchan. She also did some brilliant films like Tapasya (1976), Daag (1973), Heera Panna (1973) and Bengali films such as Paroma (1984). She also acted in Shakti (1982) and Shaan (1980).
Towards the mid 1980s and 1990s she started to play the characters of elderly mothers or supporting roles in films such as Baazigar (1993), Ram Lakhan (1989), Khalnayak (1993), Border (1997), Karan Arjun (1995), Baadshah (1999) and Soldier (1998). Her last film released was Shubho Mahurat in 2003. Eventually she retired from the film industry.
Personal Life of Raakhee
During her teens, Raakhee had an arranged marriage to Bengali film director Ajay Biswas which ended shortly. She was then married to the famous film director, poet and lyricist Gulzar. She has separated from Gulzar but never divorced him. Meghna (Bosky) Gulzar is her daughter, who had directed two films named Filhaal starring Sushmita Sen, Sanjay Suri, Tabu and Palaash Sen and Just Married starring Fardeen Khan and Esha Deol. Meghna also directed one of the part Puranmasi of Sanjay Gupta`s Dus Kahaniyaan.
Awards and Honours of Raakhee
Raakhee was awarded the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in 1973 and 1989 for Daag: A Poem of Love and Ram Lakhan respectively. In 1976, she won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for Tapasya. Lately, she also received National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for Shubho Muhurat in 2003. Other than these, she was nominated for various other awards for almost all the films in her career. Raakhee was awarded the Padma Shri in 2003.
