Puri is located as the eastern coastal plain land near Bay of Bengal. This city is located in the centre of Puri district of Odisha.

Puri is revered as the Holy Land of Lord Jagannath. History of Puri began from the time of Puranas. The ancient name of Puri was Charita which was as identified by General Alexander Cunningham of the Archaeological Survey of India. From 318 AD, Puri was ruled by Rashtrakuta Dynasty. Later Kalinga became the seat of administration and with the aid of emperor Ashoka, Puri became the place of Buddhism learning.
