Puliyur is located in Karur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a panchayat town located at 10.63°N 78.83°E. The town has an average elevation of 106 metres. Several notable industries have been established here in town. A cement plant has been established here by the Chettinad Cement Corporation Ltd in the year 1961. The company has also established a modern residential school as well as an engineering college.

According to the Indian census report of 2001, Puliyur had a population of 10,845. The males constitute 51% and females constitute 49% of the population. The town has an average literacy rate of 69%. It is much higher than the national average of 59.5%. The male literacy rate is 79%, and female literacy rate is 59%. 10% of the population is under 6 years of age in Puliyur.

Pilgrimage Centres in Puliyur
The Varadharaja Perumal located at Puliyur serves as an important pilgrimage centre. The temple is almost 600 years old and is situated in the village in Kovil Palayam in Puliyur. On 7th June 2010 the Kumbhabishekam of the temple was organised.
