Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy is a renowned Indian gastroenterologist. His contribution in the field has been celebrated widely, both on the national and the global front. He is the Chairman of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology located in Somajiguda, Hyderabad. It is reputed to be the biggest gastroenterology hospital in the world. Dr. Reddy is regarded as one of the best gastroenterologists in the world. Holding a huge number of achievements to his credit, he has been most recently conferred the Padma Bhushan, India"s third highest civilian honour by the Government of India in 2016, for excellence in the field of Medicine - Gastroenterology.
Education and specialisation of Prof. D. Nageshwar Reddy
Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in the famous Kurnool Medical College in the Kurnool city of Andhra Pradesh and later completed his specialisation i.e MD in General Medicine from Madras Medical College in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He also completed Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in Gastroenterology, from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh. He was conferred with the world"s highest gastroenterology award in Shanghai, China, at a function held in September, 2013. His qualifications in the field of medicine are MD., DM., D.SC., FAMS., FRCP., FASGE., FACG. and MWGO.
Professional Career and Experience of Prof. D. Nageshwar Reddy
Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy has served as Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology at Nizam`s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad and also as Professor of Gastroenterology at Guntur Medical College in Guntur city in the state. He has also worked as a Professor of Gastroenterology in Andhra Pradesh Health Sciences. He is presently the Chairman of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad.
His main area of research interest has been in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Innovations in Transgastric Endoscopic Surgery. He has published over 495 papers in National & International Peer review journals. He has contributed many chapters in seven International Text Books of Gastroenterology and has edited three Endoscopy Text Books. He is a part of the Editorial Board of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Digestive Endoscopy, World Journal of Gastroenterology, World Gastroenterology News, Gastroenterology Today, Recent Patents on Medical Imaging, and Gastro-Hep.com. He is the reviewer of many Journals like Lancet, Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Indian Journal of Gastroenterology. He served as the President of Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India in 2001. He is a visiting faculty for over 200 international workshops on endoscopy. He is also a forum member of Asian Endoscopy Masters Forum.

Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy has a wide range of awards and achievements under his belt, which came to him from the time whilst pursuing medicine when he was regarded as one of the best students in the college. He has been awarded with the Dr P Siva Reddy Gold Medal for the Best Out-Going Student in M.B.B.S. in 1978 alongwith many other awards and gold medals at the undergraduate stage.
