The first edition of Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) started on 26th July 2014 with eight franchises consisting of players from around the world. It is currently supervised by the Managing Director of Mashal Sports, Charu Sharma. It is the first and most significant initiative of Mashal Sports. This sole attempt of Mashal Sports has the formal backing by the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF), the Asian Kabaddi Federation (AKF) and the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI), who are closely associated with the organization and delivery of this grand event.

2016 Pro Kabaddi League season is the fourth season of Pro Kabaddi League, a professional kabaddi league in India since 2014. Mashal Sports and Star India organized 2016 Pro Kabaddi League season. 2016 Pro Kabaddi League season was hosted from 25th June to 31st July 2016.

In Pro Kabaddi League, there are eight teams. These eight teams of regional basis play in a caravan format. These teams are travelling together to all eight venues to play fifty six league matches, two semi-finals, one third and fourth position match and a Grand Finale, making a total of 60 Matches. These eight venues will be the hometown of the each team. Like Indian Premier League, several Bollywood personalities, industrialists and the former player invested money in buying the teams. These teams include the players, who will come from bids and there will be team coach, team manager, team coordinator and the public relation and publicity personnel. The eight teams of Pro Kabaddi League are Bengal Warriors, Bengaluru Bulls, Dabang Delhi, Jaipur Pink Panthers, Patna Pirates, Puneri Paltan, Telugu Titans and U Mumba. The first signing and auction of the Kabaddi players for the eight teams was held on 20 May 2014. The auction of 2014 Pro Kabaddi League was held in Mumbai. The team auction was held on 20 May 2014. The Kabaddi captain of national arena, Rakesh Kumar was the priciest among the players. He was bought for Rs.12.80 lakh by Patna franchise. Deepak Nivas of The Sports Authority of India was bought by Vizag or Visakhapatnam franchise for 12.60 lakh rupees. Mostafa Noudehi was the highest paid overseas player bought for 6.6 lakh rupees by Pune franchise.
