Prithvi Shaw is a right-handed opening batsman for the Indian cricket team. He is the youngest Indian to have made his international Test debut on October, 2018 and became the second-youngest Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to make a Test century.
Early Life of Prithvi Shaw
Born on 9th November, 1999 Prithvi Shaw"s hails from Thane in the state of Maharashtra but his native place is in Gaya, Bihar. Prithvi"s father Pankaj Gupta, who later adopted the surname Shaw, moved to Mumbai in search of work. In 2010, Prithvi Shaw was offered a contract by the AAP Entertainment that allowed him and his father to move to Mumbai and continue his cricketing education; he also received sponsorship from Indian Oil.
Career of Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw shot to prominence as a 14-year old when he scored 546 off 330 balls, an innings that contained 85 fours and 5 sixes, for his school Rizvi Springfield in the Harris Shield, an age-group cricket tournament in Mumbai in 2013. Shaw`s innings was then the highest score in school cricket until the record was surpassed by Pranav Dhanawade on 4th January 2016 and is presently the 4th highest score by any batsman in any form of the organised game.
In the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy, Prithvi Shaw made his first class debut for Mumbai and scored a century in the second innings and was Man of the Match. In September 2017, at the age of 17 years, Shaw became the youngest player to score a century in his Duleep Trophy debut, a record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar. He was then named captain of the Under-19 World Cup squad, a tournament India went on to win. On February 2017, Prithvi Shaw also made his List A debut for Mumbai in the 2016-14 Vijay Hazare Trophy and in October 2018, he was named in India"s A squad for the 2018-19 Deodhar Trophy.
During the Under-19 World Cup cricket tournament, Prithvi Shaw was brought by the Delhi Daredevils in 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for 1.2 crores. He had an impressive IPL debut scoring 22 runs in 10 balls and became the youngest player to open batting in the history of the Indian Premier League.
Prithvi Shaw made his international Test debut against West Indies in October, 2018, where he scored his maiden century in Tests and became the youngest batsman to make a Test century on debut for India. India won the second Test by 10 wickets, with Shaw being named the Player of the Series.
