The Press Information Bureau is an essential agency of the Government of India to circulate information to the print and electronic media on government policies, programme initiatives and achievements. The Press Information Bureau functions as an interface between the Government and the media. Thus this organization also provides feedback to the Government as reflected in the media.
The Press Information Bureau works through its officers of Departmental Publicity associated to various Ministry and important government organizations. Since the main objective is to be the mediator between media and the government, these officers also provide valuable advice to the Ministries on media matters. Special feedback digests are prepared by Press Information Bureau to analyze the countrywide coverage of major happenings and decisions. Press Information Bureau digitizes more than 2.5 lakh clippings on important issues and events every year.
