Prasanna Krishanswami temple, MysorePrasanna Krishnaswamy Temple is one of the most important tourist attractions in India. Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple is the age old temple where Hindus in South India concentrate there for worshipping the God.

The city of Mysore in Karnataka offers many places of tourist attractions. Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple being one of them is famous for the paintings placed there. Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple was built during 1825-1829 by the Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple features an enclosure or Prakaram and Navaranga or the central pillared hall.

It is believed that Woodeyar dynasty of Mysore is the descendents of Yadu Dynasty. Thus Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna, founder of Yadu dynasty.

Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple houses more than 40 bronze statues of deities and saints which were presented by Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. Within the Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple there is a small shrine dedicated to sage Atri. The image of the main deity, Lord Krishna in the sanctum sanctorum is made of chlorite schist.

One can always visit Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple during Krishna Janmashtami celebration as it is very well known and during this celebration a religious procession is held from this temple. Devotees and visitors can always participate in this procession.

Krishnaraja Wodeyar III built the Prasanna Krishnaswamy temple. Prasanna Krishnaswamy temple is constructed in the year 1825 and was completed in 1829. He presented the temple with about 40 bronze statues of Gods, Goddesses and saints. His name was inscribed next to the name of the statue. There is a statue of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III along with his wives with labels on their pedestals. The statue of the Maharaja is also worshipped now days also.

In the enclosure of the Prasanna Krishnaswamy temple, there is a small cell enshrining the figure of the sage Atri. The figure of the sage was installed in Prasanna Krishnaswamy temple. In the shrine of Ramanujacharya in the temple, there are three small stone figures of Paravasudeva, Anathasayana and Rajamannar (a form of Lord Krishna).

The Navaranga (the central pillared hall) of Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple has beautiful murals on its walls. The murals paintings with natural colour represent stories from Bhagavat the epic relating to Lord Krishna.

These mural paintings in this Prasanna Krishnaswamy temple along with those in the Varahaswamy temple are exquisite examples of the distinctive and exceptional 19th century Mysore paintings. The sanctum sanctorum has a beautiful statue of Lord Krishna in the crawling posture, Ambegalu Krishna. In the painting it is Lord Krishna, who has a butterball in his hand and a childish expression. This temple is known for its Kirshna Janmashtami celebrations. During the eight day celebration of birthday of Lord Krishna, a religious procession is organized from Prasanna Krishnaswamy temple.
