Prahasta is also referred as being the maternal uncle of Ravana and Kaikesi`s brother.

He reported to Ravana the arrival of Rama. Informing him that though the sea was terrible and rough, with a line of huge breakers on all sides yet Rama had crossed it like a mere cow`s track and having encamped his army on Suvela occupied in person the outskirts of the city.

Prahasta guided Ravana`s army in the wars against Yama, Kubera and the Devas, and the Asuras and Daityas, through which Ravana establishes his sovereignty over the three worlds. Moreover Prahasta also lead the initial Lankan response to the invasion led by Rama, Lakshmana, Sugriva and the Vanara Army.
