Ponmudi Hills is one of the most attractive hill stations of Kerala which is covered with green tea gardens. Nestled at the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram, the hills are part of the Western Ghats mountain range that runs parallel to the Arabian Sea. The hills are known for the splendid scenic beauty. Location of Ponmudi Hills
It is located in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala state of India. It is situated 55.2 km north-east of Trivandrum city. It is positioned at an altitude of 1100 m.
Attractions of Ponmudi Hills
Ponmudi is surrounded with a number of riverulets and rapids which run along with the roadways. While the hill slopes are enveloped by tropical vegetation, it also includes a variety of wildlife that inhabits in the hill slopes. The biggest attraction of Ponmudi hills is the golden valley which is covered with evergreen forests and provides access to the Kallar River. Flowing through wild areas, this river is covered with rounded pebbles, cool water, fish and lush green trees.
Agasthyarkoodam - the highest peak of Western Ghats which rises up to a height of 1868 m, is also popular among the tourists. This mountain peak is famous for its wilderness. It includes some dense forests with most ferocious wild animals. This mountain peak can be accessed only with the permission of the Forest Department. The high rising mountain of Agasthyarkoodam includes one of the most attractive Meenmutty waterfalls which add to the scenic beauty of the area.
The other notable tourist attractions located in Ponmudi are Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, Echo Point and deer park. The Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a variety of wild animals and birds like Asian elephants, leopards, lion-tailed macaques, Malabar grey hornbills, etc.

This popular sight provides great opportunity for trekking and hiking which attracts a number of visitors from various places. Trivandrum is mainly used as the base for trekking and hiking. The trekking journey provides great opportunities to feel the nature closely. The area comprises of tea gardens. There are also 22 hairpin curves in the short route which makes the travel more thrilling.
