Pipili, Puri District, OdishaPipili which is also known as Pipli is a town and it is the centre of applique works that is famous in eastern coastal part of Bay of Bengal and it is the pride of India. Pipli is the major connecting place with the Capital of Odisha, Bhubaneswar (20 km) and Puri (40 km) with the Konark Sun Temple and to the famous wetland bird sanctuary at Chilka Lake.

Pipli is said to be named after a Muslim saint Pir Palli.

Pipili is located in Puri District of Odisha. This hub of applique art is under NAC jurisdiction of Puri district.

Pipili is located at 20.12 degree North to 85.83 degree East. It has an average elevation of 25 metres (82 feet). It is thirty-six kilometres from Puri, at the junction where the Konark Temple road branches from the Bhubaneswar to Puri road.

According to the Population census in 2011, Pipili had a population of 14,263. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Pipili has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 63%. In Pipili, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. The population of Pipili is 17,623 of which 9,036 are males and 8,587 are females.

The applique work of Pipili is most well known handicraft in Puri and surrounding area. Each and every family here are engaged in this applique craft. This is livelihood of most people here. Pipili serves as the doorway to many destinations in the adjoining areas of Puri District. Pipili is also the source of secular relationship and communal harmony with the Hindu and the Muslims. Hindus and Muslims participate in the making and trade of applique craft. On one hand, Pipli showcases the concentrated contribution of the men, and especially the women in the applique production which is the pride of Odisha.
