Phen Wildlife Sanctuary of Madhya Pradesh is spread with an area of 111 square kilometres, established in the year 1983. Phen Wildlife Sanctuary is situated adjacent to Kanha National Park in the North East direction. Phen Wildlife Sanctuary is also known as micro core area for Kanha Tiger Reserve. Covered the area of Motinala Range, almost all species found in Kanha are found in Phen.
The State Government of Madhya Pradesh notified Phen Wildlife Sanctuary as a buffer zone. A buffer zone means the area that lies in between two or more other areas. Phen Wild Life Sanctuary is treated as a separate division which is under the unified control of the Reserve Management of India. The various wildlife conservation practices and eco-development plan are carried out under the Annual Government Management Plan for the year 2001-2002 to 2010-2011.
Some of the royal residents of this sanctuary are Royal Bengal Tiger, Leopard, Wild boar, Cheetal and Sambar. The animals and the birds of Kanha National Park and Mandla Fossil National Park are found here also.
