Peerumedu is a beautiful hill station in Kerala. It was a former summer residence of the Travancore rulers. This pleasant hill station is on the way to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Peerumedu, KeralaPeerumedu is a tiny hill station in Kerala en route Thekkady, lying almost 85 km east of Kottayam. This fertile tract rising to a height of approximately 914 metres is steeped in heritage in the Sahyadri Mountain Range. The lushness is enhanced due to plantations like rubber, tea, coffee, pepper and cardamom. Also cascading waterfalls, pine forests and open grass tracks add to the glory of the place. The cool and pleasant climate of Peerumedu makes it suitable for holidaying.

History of Peerumedu
Apart from scenic beauty, Peerumedu also is ennobled by its rich historical tradition. Peerumedu received its name from a Sufi saint Peer Mohammed. The saint was believed to be the first spice trader in the region. It was formerly a summer residence of the kings of Travancore.

Thrissanku Hills: Lying almost 4 km from Peerumedu, this hill tract, nestled within undulating hills, is spectacular to look at. Gentle breeze offers a stroke of affection to the people. Taking stroll for miles, one can see the spectacle of sun setting and rising in the open horizon.

Peerumedu, KeralaPeeru Hills: Peeru Hills, another tourist attraction is only 4 km away from the place. It is a trekker"s delight. People also regard it ideal for picnicking.

Kuttikkanam: Kuttikkanam is an ideal place for all people who have a nose for adventure tourism. From Peerumedu one needs to trek only a short distance of 3 km to reach the destination.

Madammakkulam: A waterfall and a pond below it seems to be a great spot for spending hours in noise filled silence. This is what the place has as its main attraction, named after a British lady who used to frequent it.

Panchalimedu: A prominent character in the Indian epic Mahabharata, Draupadi, also known as "Panchali", wife of Pandavas is known to be revered as a Goddess in south. This place has a pond called "Panchalikulam" which is believed to be used for bathing by her.

Sahyadri Ayurvedic Centre: Sahyadri Ayurvedic Centre is a landmark. This famous Ayurvedic Hospital is supervised by the Peerumedu Development Society in Pallikunnu. It specializes in remedial and rejuvenating treatment packages.

Mausoleum of the Sufi saint Peer Mohammad, majestic summer palace of the regal family and the magnificent Diwan residence lies close by. Waterfall at Peerumedu is another major tourist attraction.

Reaching Peerumedu is quite easy. Regular buses ply in the surrounding cities like Kumily and Kottayam. Numerous roadways have established connectivity of Peerumedu with other places of Kerala. The closest railway station of Peerumedu is Kottayam (85 km) and the nearest airport is the Cochin International Airport (130 km).
