Since its establishment in 1964, Patkar Varde College has constantly worked at increasing the number of courses it offers to the students and improving the infrastructure of the college. Patkar Varde College is located at Goregaon, Mumbai and is affiliated with University of Mumbai.

Objective of Patkar Varde College
Patkar Varde College has grown steadily in the last four decades, and is well known in the Western suburbs. The college aims to expand in all directions, keeping abreast of the new trends in management, technology and education. The main objective of the college was to become a highly-regarded, sought-after educational institution, and contribute to the well-being and development of the nation. Patkar Varde College was established with the chief aim of enabling the students to be intellectually superior and responsible citizens of the nation, ready for continuous personal, professional and social development.

History of Patkar Varde College
Established in 1964, Patkar Varde College was founded by Chikitsak Samuha, a club formed of like-minded individuals who were keenly interested in education. The College was named after Sir Sitaram Patkar, a notable judge of the Bombay High Court. Sir Sitaram Patkar was deeply interested in improving the state of women`s education and was the Vice-chancellor of the S.N.D.T. University for many years.

Courses offered at Patkar Varde College
In order to provide career-based education, Patkar Varde College started degree level self-financed courses of Bachelor of Management Studies and B.Sc. and Computer Science, from the year 2000-2001 and B.Sc. IT from the year 2001-2002. Similarly, for Junior College, Bi-focal courses (Electronics and Computers) were also initiated. Besides offering degree courses in Arts, Science and Commerce, Patkar Varde College offers certificate courses and diploma courses as well. To help students select an appropriate career, the college has started several Certificate courses in Jewellery Designing also.

Facilities of Patkar Varde College
Infrastructural facilities development of Patkar Varde College started with its establishment in the year 1964. The college has been increasing the various courses offered and their facilities to accommodate the changing trends in education and industry. The basic infrastructure of Patkar Varde College aims to provide students with the optimum learning environment. Like for instance, the Central Library of the college houses a large collection of books. Moreover, a separate library is available for the Self-Financed Courses in the Science Building. Further, the library runs a Book Bank Scheme to help the economically challenged students. The Science Laboratories have optimum facilities to conduct experiments as part of the prescribed syllabus as well as for carrying out research. There are separate laboratories for Degree and Junior College students. In addition, there is also a Biotechnology laboratory, with adequate facilities and equipment. Moreover, the college has fully air-conditioned well-equipped Computer Laboratories, with adequate sitting capacity.

The Cultural Centre of the college provides a platform to students to explore their talent and win laurels for the College. The auditorium of the college has a large seating capacity and is ideal for organising various programmes. There is also a conference room. The extension activities of NCC and NSS promote all-round personality development of the students. The college Gymkhana provides facilities for games such as table tennis, badminton, chess, etc. Further, a Career and Counselling Centre has been established to help students to deal with various vocational and personal problems. Opportunities for recreation and learning are available for students through facilities for indoor and outdoor games, cultural competitions and programmes, Nature Club, and audio-visual facilities. The College Magazine, Samuha, provides students and staff with an opportunity for expressing their creativity.

Besides the University based day-time degree courses; Patkar Varde College provides several evening classes for the benefit of the society. At present, the college conducts evening distance education classes under University of Mumbai.

Patkar-Varde College has a place of pride amongst the various educational institutions in Mumbai. It has been rendering a valuable service to the residents of this area since 1964. Many of the past students have made great achievements in various fields. Moreover, the Alumni Association, established in the year 1971 and revived in 1988, is successfully functioning for the past 23 years. The association conducts various welfare activities for the present and past students of the college. Moreover, further developments in infrastructure and education, are under consideration by the authorities of Patkar-Varde College.
