Pathar Masjid is one of the stupendous monuments at Thanesar. It is also popularly known as Saif Khan`s Mosque, Chimni Ghat Mosque and Sangi Masjid. Pathar Masjid is noted for its fluted minarets attached to its back wall. The mosque was built in the seventeenth century AD in the Mughal architectural style. Its mesmerizing stone structure attracts thousands of devotees and tourists every year.

Architecture of Pathar Masjid
The architecture of this mosque exhibits Mughal style. The mosque is believed to have been constructed in the medieval century. The Pathar Masjid is popular for its fluted minarets attached to its back wall that are built of red sandstone. Floral designs carved in low relief decorate the ceiling of the mosque resting on pillars.
There is a `qibla` (the direction of Ka aba in Mecca) in the centre of the western wall. It is flanked on either side by two arched niches inscribed with verses from the Quran. Later, the masonry terrace that forms the frontcourt was added. The pillars are also well decorated with floral designs. Again, the bases over the mouldings show `chaitya`- window motifs.
The mosque is beautifully decorated during the festival days. Special prayer services are held during festivals. As per legends, in the old days many social gatherings were also arranged in and around the mosque.

The nearest airport is at Chandigarh. The closest rail junction is at Kurukshetra from where visitors can avail buses.
