Panruti is a municipality, town and taluk headquarters flanked by Viluppuram and Cuddalore on its two sides. The town is situated at 11.77 degree North to 79.55 degree East and has an average elevation of 32 metres. The Kedilam River flows through the town.
History of Panruti
Panruti derived its name from Pannargal meaning people who composed music during the ancient period. The people who created different types of panns were known as pannar. According to history in 1886 Panruti Panjayath was set up as Town Panjayath. Panruti Municipality was established including few villages like A. Andikuppam, Iriulankuppam, T. Rajapalayam, Seerankuppam, Vadakailasam, V. Andikuppam, Panruti, Vizhamangalam.

Panruti is situated on the main line of highways. The town is intersected by State highways Chennai-Kumbakonam and Cuddalore-Chittoor. It is almost 12 kilometres from NH-45 highway.
