The Five Ms of human subtle body is called the Panchamakara. The madya (wine), mamsa (meat), matsya (fish), mudra (parched grain) and maithuna (sexual intercourse) are the five components of Panchamakara. Each M of the Five Ms represent a different Element. Just like the grain corresponds to Earth, fish to Water, alcohol to Fire and flesh to Air; the universe itself is considered as the component of worship.

Panchamakara, Kundalini Meditation The Kundalini Tantrics can say that liberation is achieved by use of that which causes bondage. Usually the use of meat, fish, other stimulating foods and alcohol can bind a person down more tightly to the world, but if the person use these same substances in the Tantric way they can act as the source of liberation from bondage, by stimulating the free movement of Kundalini. The prime intention of course is to use them in the right way.

In the physical type of Panchamakara most of the stimulation is derived from the substances themselves. In small amount, alcohol increases appetite; since it is a very hot substance, it always stimulates the flow of blood in the body. Fish has the element phosphorus in it and phosphorus burns whenever it is exposed to air thus it can be well understood that fish increases appetite by increasing blood flow to all organs, including the brain. This appetite stimulation makes the person hungry enough to eat the meat and the parched grain, which further increase this blood flow. All the extra circulating blood dilates the capillaries in the brain.

In the spiritual Panchamakara mamsa is the tongue. Matsya is the breath, and eating fish means holding the breath via pranayama. Mudra means eating grain that is the holding of the body in a certain posture to encourage free movement of Kundalini within it. Madira indicates the `wine` of Amrita Guna, which drops from the glands within the head into the body and Maithuna is the union of the Kundalini Shakti with Lord Shiva in the Sahasrara.

There is even an adhidaivika version of Panchamakara. The Adhidaivika Panchamakara involves falsification of the genes and chromosomes. The world of the adhidaivika is very difficult to understand, because it is the world of the Gods and goddesses, the embodiments of cosmic forces, which have assumed personalities in order to interact with other beings. The puja of Panchamakara is called Chakra Puja. Chakra means circle or ring, because during Chakra Puja the participants sit for worship in a large circle. The Sattvic versions are used during the Chakra Puja, like the Bhairavi Chakra, Rajasic and Tamasic versions. Most forms of Chakra Puja are varieties of the Panchamakara Sadhana.

Panchamakara Sadhana is therefore the Tantric way of meditation referring to the five substances used in a Tantric Puja or sadhana.
