Pancha-Lakshana is an epithet or appellation in the Puranas, which means that which has five characteristic topics.

In Pancha-Lakshana the five characteristic subjects are as follows. The first is the primary creation or cosmogony. Next topic is the secondary creation or the destruction and renovation of worlds that includes chronology. Third topic is the Genealogy or the description of the descendants of gods and patriarchs. The fourth subject is the Reigns of the Manus, or periods called Manwantaras. The last topic is the history, or such particulars as have been preserved of the princes of the solar and lunar races, and of their descendants to modern times.
