According to the epic Ramayana, Pampa is the name of a mythological river. The river Pampa is described as singing all day long and even through the night. In every one of its ripples a water nymph seemed weeping; there were never heard such mournful songs as those it chanted to itself, yet the music of these waters was as sweet as it was sorrowful.
Pampa is again the name of a real river that rises in Rishyamuka in the Dekhin.
