The town has been carved out of the East Kameng District of the state along with five administrative units, which are Pakke-Kessang, Seijosa, Pijiriang, Passa Valley, and Dassing-Passo with district headquarters at Lemmi. Pakke Kessang is located 90 km north of East Kameng District and 190 km east of Itanagar. It is one of the 60 constituencies of the Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh. Papum Reserve Forest is located in this Pakke Kessang valley.
