Painters of Bengal gave birth to a new traditional style of painting during the Indian Renaissance movement. The Renaissance movement of the Painters of Bengal brought a little change in the basic art style as total change was not possible.

Famous painters of Bengal
Even the long dominion of British rulers could not develop the art of painting in the country. With the beginning of 20th century new style of paintings emerged in India with the emergence of painters of Bengal. Following are the famous painters from Bengal:

Abanindranath Tagore: He was a leading artist of India. With his help and endeavour, a new school of painting was established based on Indian tradition and it came to be known as the Bengal School of Painting. Thus, with the renaissance in India, a group of young Bengal artists were responsible for producing a new traditional painting style. Jamini Roy: Jamini Roy was one of the supreme painters of the 20th century. He was born in the year 1887, at Beliator village in Bankura district of Bengal. His father, Ramataran Roy, was a middle class man who reconciled from government service to follow his interest in art.

Rabindranath Tagore: Rabindranath Tagore was a multitalented persona. He was a Bengali poet, a Brahmo Samaj philosopher, a visual artist, a playwright, a novelist, a painter and a composer, all united into one. Rabindranath Tagore started composing art works at a very tender age.

Asit Kumar Haldar: Asit Kumar Haldar was an Indian painter of Bengal school and a junior of Rabindranath Tagore at Shantiniketan. He was one of the chief artists of the Bengal renaissance.

Gaganendranath Tagore: Gaganendranath Tagore was an Indian painter and cartoonist of the Bengal school. Along with his brother Abanindranath Tagore, he was counted as one of the initial modern artists in India.

Ramkinkar Baij: Ramkinkar Baij was an Indian sculptor and painter, one of the initiators of modern Indian sculpture and a key figure of relative Modernism.

The test of artistic achievement of Bengal painters is joy; and in the work of the Bengal artists one can taste abandonment to love and beauty of the nature. The renaissance of Indian art especially paintings spread to each and every corner of the country started from Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Punjab, Hyderabad, Gujarat, Lucknow, etc. After the renaissance movement in India, impact of western art on Indian paintings was eminent. Like for instance, Impressionism, Post-impressionism, secularism and new experiments such as Neo-primitivism had definite effect on Indian paintings and on the works of painters of Bengal.
