OS Arun is a well accomplished singer who is also an expert singer fetched attention from all over for his `full and loud and deep` voice. O.S. Vaidyanathan is popular as Arun. Today he has been reckoned as one of the highly appreciable gifted Carnatic Musicians in the Country.
O.S. Arun was born into a family where music has been idolized. He has been inducted to the field of music in the Parivar Parampara. His father Vidwan O.V. Subramaniam gave him the introductory lessons on music. In the later years he obtained Alankar Purna from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. The Faculty of Music and Fine Arts at Delhi University has conducted a course named the Sangeetha Shironmani diploma course in Carnatic music where he was ranked first. O.S Arun has always highlighted the grace of sound grammar and warmth of feeling in his rendering and his presentation can be attributed for it vitality.
O.S. Arun has executed in an extensive manner throughout India as well as in abroad. He has performed at highly esteemed music festivals also like the India International Centre, the India Habitat Centre, the Vishnu Digambar Festival, the Rasika Ranjani Sabha, Calcutta, the Krishna Gana Sabha, Haridas Sammelan, Mylapore Fine Arts Club, and Kalarasana Chennai, the Badri Kedar Utsav arranged by the UP Cultural Department, ICCR`s Parivar Parampara Series, Sangeet Nrityotsav arranged by the Sangeet Natak Akademi/ICCR, the Sanskriti Festival. London, the World Adelaide Festival, Australia; the International Delima Festival. Mauritius, the 45th Independence Day, Kabul, Afghanistan, the National Centre for Performing Arts, Bombay; featured at the Qutub Festival, Delhi; he has also performed for the United Nations on the occasion of Human Rights Day.
O.S Arun has released many cassettes to his credit. Arun has several cassette / CD releases of Bhajans / Carnatic music / Fusion Music/ Devotional Music & also sings for Commercial Films and has composed music for Private Cassette recordings, Video films, documentaries, and Ballet Productions. Arun has also established a Choir that he is very proud of. The Choir maintains the pristine grammar of Carnatic Music.
Through out his career he has been conferred many accolades. In the year 2000, Arun was given the title Brahma Gana Samrat by Brahma Gana Sabha, Chennai; in the year 2001, awarded Best Vocalist award by Music Academy, Chennai; in the year 2003, awarded with four awards for the Sub-Senior Vocalist awards by the Music Academy, Chennai; in the year 2005, "Madhura Ghana Sironmani" by the Canberra Vanoli Thenasia Sevai & ATBC, Canberra, Australia; in the year 2006, Swara Raaga Saarangyar by the Panchamukha Anjaneya Trust, Chennai; Nama Sankeerthana Ratna by the G.K. Foundation, Chennai; Kalaimamani by the Tamil Nadu Government, given by The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr J. Jayalitha; Madhura Gana Siromai by Shri Prakash Cultural Heritage Research Centre Chennai; NCA Excellance 2006, and Gold Medal, award by Nugambakkam Cultural Academy Trust Chennai; in the year 2007, Senior Vocalist award and Gold Medal, for Best Pallavi Singing. by the Music Academy, Chennai.
Shri.O.S.Arun has established a registered Trust, the Alapana trust. He serves as its founder trustee. This trust has been constituted to conduct programmes on `performing arts and other related activities like lecture demonstration, workshops, etc.` Its main aim is to `meliorate the knowledge of fine arts lovers and rasikas and to serve the fine arts world`. According to them the target of the trust is to `conduct and organize activities to promote fine arts by giving platform to young and new talents with classical arts and also to aid them with materials like cassettes, books, magazines and videos`. Over the years under the Alapana Trust Music and Dance festival many noted, leading performing/upcoming artists have participated in their respective fields.
The enthusiastic composition of rhythm and melody has been highlighted through his spirited voice and it vibrates. This made him the maestro of South India`s own form of classical music, the Carnatic music. His hungriness for music has been considered as unbounded and his voice is recorded in Bhajans / Carnatic music / Fusion Music / Devotional Music. By singing for Commercial Films and composing music for Private Cassette recordings, Video films, documentaries and Ballet Productions he has added further feathers to his cap.
