North East United Football Club is an Indian Super League football franchise based in Guwahati of the Indian state of Assam. North East United Football Club is owned and operated by Bollywood actor John Abraham. The club is currently managed by Nelo Vingada.

In early phase of 2014, it was announced that the All India Football Federation, (AIFF) and the National Federation for Football in India, and IMG-Reliance would be accepting bids for ownership of eight of nine selected cities for the Indian Super League. Indian Super League is an eight-team franchise league modelled along the lines of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament and the Pro Kabaddi League.

On 13th April 2014, it was announced that Bollywood actor John Abraham and the North East based national football team Shillong Lajong Football Club had won the bidding for the Guwahati franchise. North East United Football Club is representing the north east state of India like Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur.
The crest of Northeast United Football Club is featured with 8 stars at the top representing each state of North-east India. The crest of Northeast United Football Club is designed with red, black and white applications, with the club name written in bold letters between the main crest and the stars.
Management of North-East United Football Club
On July 16 2014, it was announced that Spanish World Cup winner Joan Capdevila had signed a deal to become Northeast United Football Club"s marquee player for the Indian Super League, which will host in October 2014. Ricki Herbert is the Manager of North East United Football Club. Ricki Lloyd Herbert is a New Zealand former football player and former head coach of the New Zealand National Team. He was also the former manager of A-League side Wellington Phoenix. Ricki Lloyd Herbert represented his country at the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain. He also coached the New Zealand national team at the 2010 World Cup. Thangboi Singto is the coach of the North East United Football Club. Thangboi Singto is the current interim head coach of Shillong Lajong F.C. in the I-League Football Tournament. Thangboi Singto joined Shillong Lajong as a coaching staff in 2009 and has been there till now.
